Tools Used for Citation Audits
When I work on a document sent for a Citation Audit, I may use an AI assistant, a writing checker, Google Docs and online file converters. They are named, with an explanation of what this means for your document, in the section “Documents You Send for a Citation Audit” below.
EmailJS (order and contact forms)
The order, contact and newsletter forms on this Website send their messages to me through EmailJS, an email-delivery service. EmailJS passes on what you type into the form so that it reaches my email inbox. It handles that information under its own privacy terms. Please do not type the text of your document into a form.
Selar & Amazon
Links to Selar and Amazon are provided for book purchases. When you click these links, you leave this Website and are subject to the privacy policies of those platforms.
Flutterwave (Citation Audit payments)
Payments for Citation Audit services are handled through Flutterwave. When you make a payment, Flutterwave processes the payment information according to its own privacy notice. The Website operator may receive payment status and other transaction details necessary to fulfil the service. See Flutterwave's privacy notice.

Documents You Send for a Citation Audit
This section applies if you send me a document for a Citation Audit. In this section, “I” means Maurice Udom. The Citation Audit is provided by Maurice Udom personally, trading as maurice@edit. It adds to the rest of this policy, and where it differs, this section applies to your documents. You can read about the service on the Citation Audit page.
What I Collect
- Your document, such as a thesis, dissertation or article. It may contain personal information about you and about other people, for example participants, supervisors or institutions.
- Your name and contact details, the citation style and edition you name, and the details of your order. If you use the order form on the Citation Audit page, this includes your name, email address, optional WhatsApp number, the size you choose, the approximate number of references, any deadline, any notes you write, whether you ticked the sensitive-document box, and the order number the form gives you.
- Confirmation that you have paid. Citation Audit payments are processed through Flutterwave. Flutterwave handles payment details under its own privacy terms; I receive payment confirmation and relevant transaction information, but do not receive your full card details.
Why I Use It
I use your document only to prepare the audit report you ordered and to answer your questions about it. I keep a record of your order for accounting and tax purposes. I do not sell your document, publish it, or use it for marketing.
How I Handle Your Document
Only I open your document, on my own computer. While I work I may use online services, including an AI assistant (Claude), a writing checker (Grammarly), Google Docs, and online converters between Word and PDF. When I do, your text is processed by those services under their own privacy terms, which I do not control. They are run by companies outside Nigeria, so your text may be processed outside Nigeria.
To verify your references, I also search for individual details, such as an author, a title and a year, in public scholarly databases. Those searches do not include your document or your name.
Sending Files
Files sent by WhatsApp or email pass through those services, which have their own privacy rules that I cannot control.
If I give you a link to an upload form for your document, the file is stored by the company that runs that form until I download it and delete it, under that company's own privacy terms. I use the form only to receive your file, and I download it to my own computer to do the work.
Please Send Only What the Audit Needs
The audit checks citations and references. If your document contains sensitive personal information, such as health details or the identities of research participants, replace the names with codes in the copy you send me. You must be entitled to send me any personal information about other people that your document contains.
Who Else Sees It
No one, apart from the services named above while I work on your document, the email service and upload form service that carry your order and file to me, Flutterwave when processing your payment, and any authority to whom disclosure is required by law.
How Long I Keep It
I delete my copies of your document and your report 14 days after I deliver the report. This includes copies in my email, my WhatsApp chat, any upload form, Google Docs, and my conversation history with any AI assistant. If you want your document deleted sooner, tell me and I will do it and confirm in writing.
The services I use may keep their own copies for a limited time under their own policies. I keep a record of your order (your name, contact details, the date and the amount) for as long as accounting and tax rules require, and then delete it.
Security
I keep your document on my own computer, protected by a password. No method is perfect. If a breach affects you, I will tell you promptly and report it to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission where the law requires.
You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you. To exercise these rights, please contact us using the details below. If you are not satisfied with the reply, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Data Retention
Personal information provided through contact forms and email subscriptions is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Documents sent for a Citation Audit are kept for a shorter, fixed period, described in the section “Documents You Send for a Citation Audit” above.
Children's Privacy
This Website is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
