Agreement to Terms
By accessing and using mauriceudom.org ("the Website"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Website. These terms apply to all visitors, readers, subscribers, and clients who access or use the Website.
Description of Services
The Website is owned and operated by Maurice Udom and provides the following:
- Information about the published literary and academic works of Maurice Udom
- Blog articles on English language, Nigerian literature, writing craft, and academic scholarship
- Professional editing and editorial services (maurice@edit)
- A Citation Audit service: a written report on the citations and references in academic documents
- AI-powered writing and productivity tools (The Studio)
- Links to purchase books through third-party platforms such as Amazon and Selar
- A mailing list for new release notifications
Intellectual Property
All content published on this Website — including but not limited to text, images, graphics, logos, blog articles, book descriptions, and editorial content — is the intellectual property of Maurice Udom unless otherwise stated. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or republish any content from this Website without prior written permission from the owner.
Short excerpts may be quoted for the purpose of reviews, commentary, or academic citation, provided that proper credit and a link to the original content on mauriceudom.org are included.
User Conduct
When using this Website, you agree not to:
- Use the Website for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Website, its servers, or connected systems
- Reproduce, duplicate, or copy content from the Website for commercial purposes without written permission
- Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information through any form or communication channel on the Website
- Interfere with the proper functioning of the Website or attempt to disrupt its services
- Use any automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access or extract content from the Website
Editorial Services (maurice@edit)
The Website offers professional editing services. By engaging these services, you agree to the following:
- All manuscripts and materials submitted for editing will be treated with strict confidentiality
- Editing fees, turnaround times, and scope of work will be agreed upon between you and Maurice Udom before work begins
- Payment terms will be communicated at the time of engagement
- The edited work remains your intellectual property; Maurice Udom retains no ownership of client manuscripts
- Editing services are provided on a best-effort basis; final decisions on content, style, and structure remain with the client
Citation Audit
This section applies when you order a Citation Audit. In this section, “I” means Maurice Udom. The Citation Audit is provided by Maurice Udom personally, trading as maurice@edit. Where it differs from the “Editorial Services” section above, this section applies to Citation Audits. The service is described on the Citation Audit page.
What the Service Is
A Citation Audit is a written report on the citations and references in your document. It tells you what to fix and where. It checks citations and references only. It is not editing, proofreading, plagiarism detection or AI-text detection, and I never change your document.
Ordering
You place an order by submitting the order form on the Citation Audit page, or by asking me on WhatsApp or by email. Submitting the form means you accept this section and the Privacy Policy. The form gives you an order number. Please quote it when you pay and when you send your file. Submitting the form does not itself start the audit: I begin once your payment is confirmed and I have your file.
What You Receive and When
- A report as a Word file and a PDF, delivered within 48 hours after your payment is confirmed and I have received a readable Word file (.docx)
- Documents with more than 150 references are priced and timed individually, and I will confirm both before you pay
- A second check of your corrected document is available at the price shown on the Citation Audit page
Style and Edition
I audit against the citation style and edition you name when you order, or against the style guide your institution or journal gives you, if you send it. If your citations follow a different edition from the one I check against, the report says so as a notice, not as an error. Tell me when you order if your institution requires an older edition.
Verification Results
Each reference is labelled Verified, Details differ, or Could not verify. “Could not verify” means the work was not found in the databases I checked. It does not mean the source is false, and I do not describe any source as fabricated on the strength of a database search alone. Databases do not index every journal, report or book, so verification is not exhaustive.
The audit is an aid. I cannot promise that it finds every error, or that your supervisor, examiner, institution or journal will accept your work. You remain responsible for your final document, for its citations, and for academic honesty.
Prices and Payment
Prices are shown on the Citation Audit page, in US dollars with a naira equivalent for convenience. The size of your order depends on the number of references in your reference list. If it turns out to be larger than you ordered, I will tell you and confirm the price before starting work. Payment is made before I begin the audit.
Refunds and Corrections
- If I cannot complete your audit, for example because your file cannot be read, I will refund your payment in full
- If you believe the report contains a mistake, tell me within 7 days of delivery, and I will review it and correct it at no charge
- Once a report has been delivered and no mistake has been found in it, the fee is not refundable
Your Document
You confirm that you own your document or have the right to send it to me, and that sending it does not breach any confidentiality duty or any third party’s rights. Your document remains yours, and I claim no rights in it. I handle it as described in the Privacy Policy, including the tools named there. If your document is sensitive, tick the sensitive-document box on the order form and send the file by email or WhatsApp, not through an upload form.
Limit of Liability
To the extent the law allows, my total liability for a Citation Audit is limited to the fee you paid for it. This adds to the “Limitation of Liability” section below.
AI Tools (The Studio)
The Website provides access to AI-powered writing and productivity tools. By using these tools, you acknowledge that:
- AI-generated content is provided as a starting point and should be reviewed and verified before use
- The Website does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated outputs
- You are solely responsible for how you use any content generated through these tools
- These tools require a valid API key to function and may be subject to third-party usage limits
Third-Party Links
This Website contains links to third-party websites, including Amazon, Selar, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and social media platforms. These links are provided for convenience and reference purposes. Maurice Udom does not control or endorse these external websites and is not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or availability. Accessing third-party websites is at your own risk, and you are subject to their respective terms of service.
Book Purchases
Books listed on the Website are available for purchase through third-party platforms (Amazon, Selar). All transactions, payments, refunds, and delivery are handled by those platforms and are subject to their terms and conditions. Maurice Udom is not liable for any issues arising from third-party transactions.
Email Subscription
By subscribing to the mailing list, you consent to receive occasional email notifications about new book releases, publications, and updates from Maurice Udom. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link included in every email. Your email address will not be sold or shared with third parties.
Advertisements
This Website may display advertisements served by third-party advertising networks, including Google AdSense.
