Dr Maurice Enobong Udom is a distinguished academic, author, and linguistic scholar. He previously served as Head of the Department of General Studies at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, where he holds the rank of Chief Lecturer.
Born on June 9, 1963, in Ikot Oku Mfang, Abak, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, Dr Udom earned his PhD in English from the University of Uyo in 2008, with a groundbreaking focus on "Lexical Innovations in Nigerian English Usage." He holds a BA (Combined Honours) in Communication Arts and English, an MA in English, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
As an author, Dr Udom has published widely across fiction and academia. His novels The Blind Gods (2004) and Gambling with Destiny (2005) were published in the United States. His academic texts — Reader's Companion on the Use of English (2024) and — are considered essential resources in English language studies across Nigeria.
He serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Akwapoly Journal of Communication and Scientific Research (Tetfund-sponsored) and has presented at international conferences including the 24th IAHA Conference in Islamabad, Pakistan, and workshops in California, USA. He has been Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana.
